Intro
4 alignment laser units are located in the experimental hall. They are sketched in the overview (see figure below for details). Please note that the units at BL3 and BL1 are equipped with additional features. BL3 has integrated a powermeter whereas BL1 is provided with two filters.
"LAS_BL": Placed shortly before paddle 'F4', in front of the VLS spectrometer. This laser supplies the complete BL branch (BL1, BL2 & BL3).
"LAS_PG": located in front of PG M1
"LAS_BL3": Placed between the mirror-chambers 'BL3-M0' and 'BL3-M1'. This laser supplies only BL3. In addition to the mirror two apertures (9mm & 6mm) are available.
"POWM_BL3": Placed right behind "LAS_BL3". Intensity measurements can only be done at BL3.
"LAS_BL1": Placed between the mirror-chambers 'BL1-M0' and 'BL1-M1'. This laser supplies only BL1. In addition to the mirror two filters are available (see figure below for details).
Controls for BL1/3 align laser
The laser can be controlled via jddd:
- the laser can be switched on and off (on / off buttons) with a "mini-Beckhoff" control switching on and off the power for the laser. more see below
- to see the laser a mirror has to be inserted to reflect the laser into the beamline. this is controlled via a sincos driven stepper motor connected to the VLS motor control. this server can be restarted in the "expert tab"
- The direction of the laser can be changed using a 2 Picomotors mounted on a mirror holder allowing to steer the direction in fine steps.
- the picomotor server can be restarted from the expert tab
- the picomotor controller can also (in case it is completely stuck ) be power cycled from the expert tab
Expert tab (status 2021)
BL and PG align laser
The BL alignment laser has currently no picomotor controler ... it has to be aligned by hand.
Mini-Beckhoff box (power control for all align lasers and picomotors)
a Mini Beckhoff box located in the GMD rack area (
) is used to control the power of the alignment lasers as well as for the Picomotor controllers. The Box has 8 24 V outputs. They are connected to:
- for the BL1/BL3 laser to a home build (FS-EC) box that controls the 240V lines (the 240 V go in cables from the box to the Lasers / Picomotors)
- for the BL and PG laser to a home build (FS-EC) box that produces 5V / 15 V using relais that power the laser / picomotor controllers directly
status: Dec 2021
