Basics

Success

What are Belle II credentials?

The Belle II credentials are your account name and your password (NOT email address). The credentials are valid for all resources. Please denote DESY Requirements for Account Names and Passwords.

Success

I lost the password of my KEKCC account.

The account of the KEK computing facility is different from the credentials for the Belle II collaborative services (B2CS). For your KEKCC account please contact usersoffice_AT_mail_DOT_kek_DOT_jp . The B2CS is handled by b2-helpdesk_AT_belle2_DOT_org .

Success

Can I use my KEK account/password at DESY?

No, the DESY and the KEK registry are completely independent. Please refer to Belle II User Registration to request DESY credentials (account name / password). Your DESY credentials are good for all Belle II collaborative services including the membership management system.

Success

Do I need a KEK account to get into the Belle II membership management system?

No, you request Belle II membership via Belle II User Registration, which generates login credentials at DESY which are good for all Belle II collaborative services including the membership management system.

Success

Do I need a KEK account to gain access to the Belle II collaborative services and tools?

No, you request Belle II membership via Belle II User Registration, which generates login credentials at DESY which are good for all Belle II collaborative services including the membership management system.

See Belle II Support Contacts.

Belle II Membership

Success

I am new to Belle II. What do I have to do?

Please refer to the page Belle II Newcomers. You need to register.

Success

How do I become a Belle II member and how do I get into the Belle II Membership Management System?

If you have DESY credentials to access the Belle II collaborative services such as confluence, you were automatically included in the Belle II Membership Management System (B2MMS). If not please refer to Belle II User Registration. With your registration you will be included in the Belle II Membership Management System (B2MMS).

Success

Who is the representative of my institution (IR)?

Please ask your colleagues. We might also help you by email at b2-helpdesk_AT_belle2.org.

Success

How long does it take to get a Belle II membership?

Your membership request triggers an approval  workflow which involves the representative of your institution (IR), and the IB - if you are physicist / faculty/staff - followed by the creation of your DESY credentials (account name / password). The entire process is usually finished within one workday but obviously depends on the availability of people.

Success

Where is the Belle II members list?

Please refer to the official Belle II members list (protected).

Success

My membership 'Expired'.

If your affiliation with your current Belle II institution ends, e.g. after finishing a thesis, your current Belle II institution representative (IR) will set your Belle II membership to 'Expired'. Subsequently your DESY account for the Belle II collaborative services and tools will expired with a grace period of one month as well. See Belle II Membership Management System for information if you change to another Belle II institution. Do not register again, your record remains in the system.

Registration

Success

I can't find the links to the registration portals.

Please check the section Belle II Registration Portal.

Success

After registration I received an email about the readiness of my account. How can I change the password?

Account and password are the ones you typed into the form at registration time.

Success

The certificate-based registration fails, because my name is not in the CN of my certificate.

The portal compares your name with the name in your certificate to avoid miss-use of stolen certificates. In this very rare case cancel the process and contact b2-helpdesk_AT_belle2.org.

Success

My initial password does not work. I am sure though that it is the right one.

The DESY registry needs some time (<=5h) to set up the credentials and notify the connected services. Please try again in a few hours. You will get an email if everything is set up.

Success

Why am I asked for my date and place of birth?

In order to uniquely identify you in our system, we have to know your date and place of birth. Be sure the information will not be used elsewhere according to the privacy rules.

Collaborative Services and Tools

Success

Where is a list of all collaborative services and tools (B2CS)?

Please see Belle II Collaborative Services and Tools.

Success

I have login problems to the collaborative services!

You need your DESY credentials (account_name / password). An email adress does not work.  Please always use the 'https' URL and add a trailing '/', e.g. https://questions.belle2.org/ .

Indico

Success

Which Indico can be access?

The official Belle II Indico is at indico.belle2.org. It is operated at DESY. You can use your DESY credentials (account name / password) to log in. There are more Indico instances though which are sometimes used for Belle II affairs as well, such as Indico@DESY and Indico@KEK and even https://indico.cern.ch/. They all have separate user managements. Your Belle II account/password does not work there!

Success

What about the KEK Indico?

The KEK Indico system is managed completely independently.

Success

How long does it take to create my login credentials?

The creation of the login credentials is finished within one work day. Please note: DESY is in the Central European Time-zone (CET).

Success

I want to change my password?

Use https://password.desy.de/ or (deprecated!) login to bastion.desy.de and use the command 'passwd'. It connects to the DESY registry which manages the access to afs, web pages, and Atlassian tools (confluence, stash, agira, bamboo). The account name / password is valid for all resources. Please denote DESY Requirements for Account Names and Passwords.

If the web service https://password.desy.de/ fails due to your network settings (we saw such cases), login via 'ssh password.desy.de'.

Success

I changed my DESY password using 'passwd' on a DESY login host?

The command 'passwd' issued on a DESY login host, e.g. bastion.desy.de, connects to the DESY registry which manages the access to afs, web pages, and Atlassian tools (confluence, stash, agira, bamboo).

No, this is not necessary but you will be asked regularly to change your password. The account name / password is valid for all resources. Please denote DESY Requirements for Account Names and Passwords.

Success

Do I have a DESY account?

If you were able to or are still able to login to bastion.desy.de , you got DESY credentials earlier which can be used for Belle II. Contact b2-helpdesk_AT_belle2.org . A new registration attempt via the portal would fail.

Success

Renewing / changing password?

The DESY credentials ( account name / password) are valid for all resources. Use https://password.desy.de/ . Please denote DESY Requirements for Account Names and Passwords.

Success

Email from the DESY registry that account expires?

DESY will take care! There is nothing you must do! According to the DESY (security) rules, accounts automatically expire but can be extended by an admin. As long as you are an active Belle II member according to your status in the B2MMS, your account will be extended.

Email Addresses

Success

I must change my email address?

Please change your personal email address (PEM) in the B2MMS. The change will automatically be changed in the mailing lists (ML) coll-members_AT_belle2_DOT_org as well as b2mms-members, b2mms-users, b2mms.coll-authors. Please see Mailing Lists for the manual bulk change of your email address in the MLs.

Note: Your addresses first.last_AT_desy_DOT_de and first.last_AT_belle2_DOT_org are just forwarding to your PEM!

Success

Names and email addresses.

The DESY registry will use the names you have given as 'given middle family' and create email addresses such as given.middle.family_AT_desy.de and given.middle.family_AT_belle2.org. Make up your mind if you really want the middle name. The spaces will be transformed to dots! Example: 'Nino de Angelo' will become 'nino.de.angelo_AT_desy.de' and 'nino.de.angelo_AT_belle2.org' whereas 'Nino deAngelo' (no middle name) will end up in 'nino.deangleo_AT_desy.de'.

Success

Grid users usually have exported their Grid user certificate to ~/.globus to use it with Grid commands such as 'voms-proxy-init', 'dirac-proxy-init', or 'gb2_proxy_init'. The following commands may help to investigate the situation.

The directory:

> cd ~/.globus

-r-------- 1  userkey.pem

Checking if public (cert) and private (key) match:

> openssl x509 -noout -modulus -in usercert.pem | openssl md5
> openssl rsa -noout -modulus -in userkey.pem | openssl md5

Checking subject, issuer, and validity dates:

> openssl x509 -subject -issuer -email -dates -noout -in ~/.globus/usercert.pem

My browser complains about connection / SSL problems?

Connection errors such as 'SSL_ERROR_HANDSHAKE_FAILURE_ALERT' are due to old or missing CA certificates in your browser. You might want to check Preferences / Advanced / Certificates / View Certificates / Servers and Authorities . Also consider to use another browser. We have good experiences with firefox and we saw also safari on MAC working. From our experience there is usually someone in your group or institute who managed.

Success

When trying to connect to the KEK VOMS server I see 'SSL_ERROR_HANDSHAKE_FAILURE_ALERT'?

In order to create the necessary secure connection to the KEK VOMS server, your browser needs to accept the VOMS server's certificate. Click 'Advanced' /  'Add exception' / 'Get certificate' / 'Store permanently' / 'Confirm' .
